Data show that wearing visors in the National Hockey League (NHL) can cause a four-fold decrease in the risk of eye injuries.  Hockey-related eye injuries from 2002 to 2013 have cost the NHL and its associated franchises more than $32 million in missed games.

About 73% of NHL players wear visors.  Visors are now mandatory for all players entering the NHL.
